You’ll need to set aside extra time to prepare for when you’re not going to be near your child’s side. Each time they have an outing, be it a sleepover, field trip, etc, you have to prep whoever is going to be watching over your child to make sure they can handle any situation that could arise. Leaning on others and providing them with the information they need, can give your child and yourself the courage you need to maintain your child’s health.
The most important thing is to put your emotions aside to not make your child’s life any more complicated than it already is with diabetes. A healthy support system that constantly surrounds your child isn’t that hard to provide and can do wonders to getting through your child’s younger years and having them grow up to know how to take care of themselves and relieve you of worry once they leave the house.
