This type of diabetes, pre-diabetes, occurs in almost all of its victims.  It is even more common then type II diabetes, which is classified as the most common form.  Pre-diabetes is when your blood glucose levels are elevated beyond normal, but you’re yet to develop and be labeled as having full-blown diabetes.  Like other forms of diabetes, it can be treated and prevented.  Currently there are approximately millions of American sufferers whose heart and circulatory systems are being damaged by pre-diabetes.  If you feel you may be affected, you should have your doctor give you a fasting plasma glucose test or an oral glucose tolerance test.  This will tell your glucose levels and pick out any irregularities that could cause further problems.

If you’d like to start any symptoms before they start, there are many actions you can take to prevent pre-diabetes all together!  Most of them are as simple as incorporating new healthy eating habits into your daily routine.  This will alone will drastically reduce or even eliminate your chance of developing pre-diabetes, or diabetes all together.  Your diet is detrimental to your health, as well as leading the most active lifestyle you can.  You can speak with your doctor about an eating plan that will be good for you and your genetics.  Don’t be afraid that this will put you on a ‘diet’ but rather a healthy eating plan that keeps your body functioning at its best and warding of disease.

Besides eating healthy, the previously mentioned active lifestyle, or exercising, can play a big part in fighting off pre-diabetes.  This isn’t to say you have to start running 6 miles a day or doing 1,000 crunches, but you should incorporate small changes into your daily routine to up the amount of physical activity you are getting.  Small changes will most certainly help you live a longer, healthier life.  When in the office take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Skip one of those half-hour sitcoms and take a walk around the block on a nice evening.  In as little as 15-minutes a day, you can fight off a major disease!
