Affordable Health Care

With the cost of providing a professional medical service to American families rising, it is not surprising that many people are looking for an affordable health care provider. Workers are being hit hard by employers anxious to save money on their premiums by reducing cover or passing on the rises in cost. My work health care plan was, until the latter part of 2006, great but now the benefits it supplied have been reduced. Out of the blue the company decided to change their health care provider because it was costing them too much. They said that to have a low cost health care scheme for everyone meant we would have to change companies. Although I am just as well looked after with this new policy, I am not entirely convinced. It is not that I am against the company trying to save money and make it more equal but twice the amount is now taken from my paychecks each month so that the rest of my family can be on the policy. Other than a few exceptions, everyone else seems to benefit from this new arrangement but because I have not had a raise but I am taking a great deal less home so my family can have health cover. My health care may still be very good despite the fact that the old company was much better than this new one. The new affordable health care plan initiated by my company meant that certain workers found themselves a lot worse off financially with additional co-pays and expenses. My last policy took care of all the hospital stay when I had my little boy nearly 3 years ago. Compare this to the new health care plan and I would be out of pocket by over 4,000 dollars. However, that amount is just for the hospital and delivery because I would also have other expenses and that just doesn't seem fair to the majority that are involved. Fortunately, more affordable health care scheme are being started to help those less fortunate. For workers in companies without health care plans and single mums for instance, this is a God send. Whilst I appreciate these programs because they are saving lives and helping people to grow stronger and healthier, some people take advantage of them. Perhaps some form of means testing is needed for people so that only genuine cases have the benefit of affordable health care. Taxpayers, such as me, are contributing to the vast number of programs currently available. Ok, so some of the employees where I work have benefited but the real winner was my company. It worked out just fine for my employers when they switched providers but many of us are paying the price. If we are to help the worst affected, we need to start looking at long term options for Americans in providing cost effective, affordable health care.
