Although the exact cause of type II diabetes is still unknown, there are two main contributing factors that you can pay close attention to in order to reduce or eliminate risks of developing type II diabetes and also easing your living with type II diabetes. These two things are weight management and physical activity. Making sure that your weight is under control and that you are getting enough physical activity daily should be one of your main concerns whether you are suffering from type II diabetes or not, but especially if your body is not functioning at 100%.
Weight management doesn’t mean that you have to be a size two and live off of lettuce for the rest of your life. It doesn’t mean that you have to eat perfectly healthy and never have a piece of chocolate cake again. It just means that you need to be careful of what you eat and eat things that are bad for you in moderation so that your chances of developing type II diabetes or making your case of type II diabetes worse is lessened. Maintaining a healthy weight is easy when you substitute your normal foods with a healthier version and incorporate more fruits and vegetables. Making little healthy changes to your diet is the easiest way to protect yourself against type II diabetes.
Physical activity is the other way in which you can protect yourself. Most people dread exercise and think it means that they have to start running 6-miles a day. This isn’t the case, you can simply incorporate a half-hour walk into your daily routine and be much healthier than doing nothing at all. I know, it can be daunting and you’re wondering how you’re ever going to fit exercise in with your already packed schedule in today’s fast paced world. You don’t need to get the most expensive gym membership and work on 6-pack abs either. Little things can be incorporated into your daily routine to get your level of activity up. Take the stairs instead of the elevator at work. Go to the mall without your wallet and simply walk around it a few times. Take a bike ride and enjoy the scenery that you usually drive by too fast. All these little (and sometimes fun!) activities will help you use up that extra glucose that is causing your type II diabetes. The glucose will be used as energy and make your cells more responsive to the extra insulin that your body isn’t recognizing.
